New for 2008

  • When you get to the application there will be a new category for an email for each of your parents so that we can communicate important summer information directly to them. Only those 18 and over at the time of application can be exempted form this process.

  • You are required to add Mbcandwidji Reference as a friend if you have Facebook or if you have a myspace.com or other blog page you must open it up to us for review. If you are hired for a summer staff position, you must keep your Facebook, myspace or other blog open to MBC leadership.

  • Arrival and Departure Dates

As with every summer, MBC has a commitment to its guests to provide an expected quality of service during their stay. Conference and Widjiitiwin staff are required to arrive on Saturday June 21, 2008 by 4 pm. All Conference staff must work until Sunday, August 31, 2008 at supper.

All Widji staff must work until Labour Day Weekend (your departure date over that weekend will be dependent on your position and is at the discretion of the Camp Widjiitiwin Director). Before you apply, be realistic about the departure date. If you commit to being here (and acceptance of a position here indicates that fact), we expect you to hold to your commitment.

    Your Pay

REMUNERATION and benefits will be the agreed basic amount, promised from MBC/Widji's budgeted revenue, and paid directly to the summer crew member at the end of July and upon completion of summer ministry in August. Generally, a first year crew member receives $500 plus room and board, a second year crew member receives $650 plus room and board, and a third year crew member receives $800 plus room and board.

SUMMER MISSION FUND - MBC will do everything possible to help our Summer Service Team members raise additional support to the equivalent of $1000 per service month towards their personal development expenses.

    SALT Grad Award

This award is given to encourage summer staff to be able to stay for one more summer at MBC or Widjiitiwin. The program will be for those who have attended SALT, worked at least one summer on MBC or Widji staff, have just graduated from grade twelve and are in a summer supervisory position at either MBC or Camp Widjiitiwin. This award will add $1000.00 to the summer wage to the staff members who qualify.

    Days Off

Days off are limited to one day per week for seasonal crew and will be arranged with the manager of each department or the camp director.

    Accommodations

Crew accommodations will be assigned by MBC/Widji. Most crew members will be accommodated in the dormitories at the Conference Centre and cabins at Camp Widjiitiwin. You may make rooming requests once you have been hired. Final decisions are made by the Guest Services Director or the Camp Director.

    Training Week

Summer staff training week is June 21-28 this year. General and specialized training sessions will be given during the first days after arrival. Any special advance preparation assignments will be communicated well in advance. Orientation will include separate sessions for the Conference Centre and Camp Widjiitiwin as well as combined activities.

    Your Physical Well-being

MBC cannot be responsible for the dispensing of medicines other than emergency first aid. Each team member will be responsible for any medication, prescriptions, or hospital expenses they incur.

Close living quarters, the continuation of assigned duties, the shortness of the summer, limitation of infirmary space, and concern for the welfare of the team member - these factors may combine to necessitate termination of employment if a health problem persists. For example, heavy chest congestion can be serious, may infect others, and will prevent continuation of jobs involving food handling or contact with guests; though not a mark of personal failure, termination may be necessary.

A completed medical form (sent with your contract) will be required as a condition of employment.

    Information for Parents/Guardians

For applicants under 18 years of age it is imperative that a parent/guardian read the Information Packet and Ministry Service Team Information Form. He/she will be required to sign the Information Form for it to be complete. Their signing supports the implementation of standards and rules of MBC.

    Spiritual Growth and Development

Summer camp should be a place where you grow in your knowledge and experience of God. Therefore, your spiritual growth this summer is one of our primary concerns. It has also been identified by past summer staff as an area of great significance. This summer we have many ways to encourage your spiritual development.
